When I finally got around to reading this on my Kindle, I did not see that it was the second in a series, so I really thought it was badly written. Once I saw that there was a back-story available on what Zillael is and that the vampire connection had already been revealed in the first book, I realized this book was probably not as as incohesively written as I thought.

Zillael is a senior in high school who is hated for her beauty. Derek goes to school with her and becomes her friend this year when they both kill vampires together outside a school dance. Vayle is a vampire that escaped that night after Zillael gave him "lifeblood". He is inexplicably connected to her now both emotionally and physically even though he still is attracted to his previous college girlfriend who can't deal with him being a vampire. Zillael's touch has enabled him to withstand sunlight and a nice little love triangle between Zillael, Derek and Vayle is established. The sexual level of this book is not for young YA's.

This book is the second in a series and is not a stand-alone book. You really need to have read book one (which I didn't) to really enjoy this book. Even so, this book never reveals any information about what Zilleal is; we know as much in the end as we did at the beginning of the story and the cliff-hanger ending introduces two new characters (at least I thought they were), then "The End". Really, just a typical second installment where nothing really happens.

The Seventh Sister A Parched Novel A Vampire Romance edition by ZL Arkadie Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Zillael is a teenager who finds herself a loner in a small town high school after moving there from a larger city. Often home alone as her mother travels the world for work purposes, the girl is largely independent and wanting to bide her time until she can graduate and move on. Her mother forbids her to use her one apparent talent, speed, in a sport like track and field, and the girls who do notice her do not want to be her friend--just the opposite. The school counselor apparently feels she needs more of a social life and designs Zillael's punishments to interact with other students, the most immediate being to work at the dance, serving punch with a boy that the other girls claim as their own. While serving her duty, Zillael is attacked by strangers. While defending herself, she is aided by the boy and a teacher who seems to be able to communicate silently through mere thought. The story moves on to introduce the reader to a variety of strange people, ideas and aptitudes that start to abound around Zillael, including the discovery that her mother is not all she seems.

Good writing skills are diminished by distractions that are a result of either poor editing or a poor formatting to the translation, which is likely since this was a free offering by . In terms of the story line, as a stand-alone novel, the book fails to deliver a climactic action that would bring the story's elements together in a laudable conclusion. However, as an installment in a larger series, the work appears to introduce characters and elements that perhaps offer insight to actions that are most likely explained in subsequent installments. If you prefer to have a complete story in a single novel, this book will disappoint; however, if you can accept a story line that uses a carefully controlled plot line that advances through a sequence of novels, at least one of which does not contain a complete story in itself, then this is a book that could be recommended for readers also interested in the world of vampires and the possibility of their existence in today's world.
4 1/2 ****s!!!!!! Before I get into what is right with this book, let me mention the drawbacks, since there are so few. It is too short! Okay. That's it. That is why I didn't give it 5*s. I wanted to keep reading and the story ended. Guess I'll have to just get the next book. )

From the moment I started reading this novel, I was hooked. The writing style, diction and pace was outstanding (to the point that the editing errors took a back seat to my enjoyment.) Additionally, I truly enjoyed the protagonist, which is not that common in YA literature. She is strong, independent, yet relies on the caring of her mom. When faced with a strange incident, she does not back down, when told of other beings, she questions, but does not fear. Yes, her name is strange (Zillael) and she can run like the wind, but, since she takes it all in stride, so does the reader.

Zillael is emotional and obviously feels things deeply without becoming weepy or clingy. Although I do not agree with all of her choices, she makes them in accordance with her nature. She is not "wise beyond her years" nor is she naive. Her isolation from her peers results in a certain maturity that keeps her connected to humanity.

The love interest and protector, Derek, is a unique being who is very likable, exceedingly knowledgeable, and very innocent in his emotions - and there is a reason for that. He is much sweeter than Zill, seemingly more connected to humanity and fairly perfect.

The Seventh Sister was a very enjoyable light read that kept me involved. I truly look forward to reading more of Zill's story.
